About SMHA
The Rutgers Law Student Mental Health Association (SMHA) strives to bring mental health
awareness to the law school by hosting events, panels, and workshops focused on mental health.
SMHA encourages law students to prioritize mental health during their journey through law
school by providing a safe space for students to discuss their struggles and learn effective
strategies for managing and maintaining mental health while facing the rigors of a legal
education.

Student Testimony: What does SMHA mean to you?
Brad, 4LE

It's great to be part of an organization that brings awareness to and advice on issues that personally affect me, as well as a lot of my fellow students.
Jaime, 3L

SMHA to me, is a way to shed light on the fact that for any law student, there is the less-than-seen side of their struggles, anxiety and much more. It brings awareness that success in the legal field is not without its challenges and aims to acknowledge and discuss these challenges.
Megyn, 2L

As someone who felt ashamed from having mental illness for a long time, having an organization like SMHA is important to not only de-stigmatize mental illness but also help law students suffering to have a safe place to turn to to unwind and know they’re not alone in their suffering!
